Amey's Blog
I planned for this to be about homemaking and homeschooling, but now it's just a chaotic jumble of news and ideas about animals, kids, food, and other random thoughts.

Now that we are farm people, we are interested in making sure that the National Animal Identification System (NAIS) does not come to our state. This is the dumbest thing I've heard of in a long time (since Cindy Sheehan, maybe). Did you know that in the state of Texas right now, if you have a baby chick but don't register your property as a farm with the government, and you don't tag your chick with some id number, you will be fined $1,000 per day? This is all under the guise of "protecting" our country from the bird flu. The government is so concerned about protecting us from the bird flu, that they are also now going to import chickens from China. Is it just me, or does this make absolutely NO SENSE? All this NAIS thing will do is make things difficult if not impossible for all of us "grow-your-own-food, live-off-the-land" types. If you haven't heard about this, you may want to read a little about it. Here's another link to get you started. Did I mention how dumb this is?
A Political Post
You scored as Conservative. You are a Conservative! You beleive that the government should have minimal control over the lives of individuals and are in oppostition to change.
What is your political ideology? created with QuizFarm.com |
Here's another stupid quiz I took. Did you know I was a Conservative Green Libertarian? I don't even recycle much yet! But I'm building up to that. I still think the eco's are wacko as far as global warming and animal rights are concerned, but I do think there's a big problem with companies polluting the air and water supply. And there are huge problems with the way factory farms raise animals. Animals that give food for people (through milk, eggs, and meat).
I'm editing this to say that I cannot believe that whoever made this quiz did not spell "believe" correctly. It is driving me crazy!!! 'I' BEFORE 'E' EXCEPT AFTER 'C'!!!!!
I'm Still Here...
Just having a little trouble with the ol' Blogger monster again. I have several things to post, but haven't been able to get on here to do it lately. Blogger keeps shutting down my browser. Not sure why. Hopefully this will work.
Daisy the Wonder Goat had her babies on Saturday (about the warmest January day possible). She had triplets - Rose, Iris, and Billy. You know the goats rate around here because they have names. The cats are just known as "the cats".

So Now Our Way is Clear
We're ecstatic that now our way is clear to get a milk cow and/or goat! Bill, of Bill's Blog, has volunteered to come over and do the milking while we're away on vacation at the beach from time to time (tip to Bill: bring your own muck boots).Thank you so much! We are in awe of your generosity! While he is here to do the milking, I'm sure he won't mind collecting the eggs, feeding all the animals, shearing the sheep, and baling the hay. This is so exciting!

Some Good Advice
In my ever-widening search for ways to become more motivated to keep up with the cleaning/organizing of my home, I yielded to the advice of several people and signed up for e-mails from The Flylady. Wow! Talk about motivation! Here's an actual e-mail I got last night (just before midnight) from this Flylady lady (I'm not making this up):
It's getting late on the east coast of the USA. I really want you to go to bed. Getting up is much easier when you get plenty of sleep.
Getting enough sleep is the key to many of our health issues. Please don't deprive your body of the rest you need. When I started getting restful sleep; my body clutter started going away.
The rest of you better be thinking about getting your body under those sheets shortly.
Consider yourself tucked in!

And Here's What I REALLY Think of New Year's Resolutions
I never thought that New Year's resolutions were that big of a deal anyway. I mean...if you really wanted to live a certain way, you would just do it, right? Who needs a resolution to fulfill your obligations and do the right things?
Side note (totally off topic): If you ever eat meat, you should watch this. Funny, but true.
